Garden Update

Almost forgot! All that is left from my veggie garden is the bird house gourd plant. It has taken off now since it is the last thing left in the pool (except for the crazy cucumbers that have decided to come up again.) Last night when I went to water after work there were two gourds almost ready to pick just hanging there saying hey! Had only seen one of them earlier in the week. Guess the second one was hiding behind some leaves.

The end is in sight

I am almost done with the sides of the last layer of the crocheted cake!!! Woo Hoo! Just have the bottom to make after a few more rows. The final stitch count is 164 sc around with an F hook. Who's crazy idea was this anyway. LOL The candy/decorations I ordered from Oriental Trading arrived yesterday. Everything is going to make this cake look great. Love the candle eyeballs the best I think. Need to buy a bit piece of Styrofoam for when I go and clear coat all this candy so the bugs done take down my cake. The glow in the dark ducks are just too cute for words. Will have to take pictures again once I have some more stuff done.

Mike and I inventoried and boxed up some of the ever growing toy army last night. Can see the kitchen table again almost...grin Hopefully we can get 2 or 3 boxes done again tonight after I get some errands done after work...pending any rain.

After much annoyance and a second trip to the college I am now registered for the final class I need for this semester. Who know an English Comp class would be so hard to get registered to attend. And two little books for said course cost me almost $200 bucks. Good thing my student loan for my BA degree has been put into deferment since I am back in school. Between Durham and Nash Colleges they are going to break my bank...lol

A little visitor today

Look what I saw on my butterfly bush today!

Cake Update

Here is a recent picture of the crocheted cake for the show in October. I am almost done with the top of next layer. The varigated yarn is working out differently on each layer so they are not going to match but that makes the cake for different. Mike and I came up with name "Sweet Chaos" for the piece. That works with the way the varigated is looking.

Garden Surprise

Well just about everything has died off in the veggie pool. All except for the gourds and squash. I went to water last night and found that there were cucumbers coming back up where the dead ones were. I had planted the entire package of seeds so I guess since there was room the seeds below started growing.

Dr. Who Scarf Update

Worked on the scarf a bit this weekend in between matting and framing 12 pictures and crocheting two more layers of the cake for October. I totaled up the total rows that this scarf is going to have when I am done. There are 832 rows total....somebody help me! I have 254 rows done with 578 rows to go.

Big box arrived today!!

The first of many boxes arrived today at work. This picture was my inspiration for the November show at Visual Art Exchange. I am going to crochet the different layers in Halloween themed colors. The yarn I am going to use is from Hobby Lobby called I Love This Yarn. It is great to work with and it is very soft. The decorations are going to be Halloween characters cut out of old vinyl records and I am going to hang them from wire and line from the top layer. I have been wanting to try wire crochet so I am going to make some kind of decoration for the smaller layer of the cake. The cake itself will be around 19 inches high with out the wire decorations. I found some glow in the dark rubber ducks online that I am going to get to add to the top of the cake as well and to put on the board for decorations. Will use kabob sticks to attach the different layers together. I am going to take pictures along this crazy journey of my crocheted cake. I have until September 28, 2009 to have it done and over to VAE.

Beginning State Fair Projects

Found the pattern for the Dr. Who scarf for the third doctor in the series. Just had to make one since the piece of art I won at the Charlotte Comic Con was Dr. Who themed. I am on color change number four. Had to improvise on the colors a bit because I could not find some of the required colors.

Next, will be a crochet sock monkey. Found a pattern without any picture to follow so will see how that will go. I received a yarn donation from a co-worker that I am going to use for part of the monkey. She gave me yellow and green baby yarn and they look really good held together. So I am going to use soft white for the head, mouth, hands and feet area and the color combo for the body.

At my boyfriend's request, I came up with a chart for the snake eyes tattoo to crochet on a hat. Was pretty easy so just have to do a test hat to see how it looks to see if I want to enter it into the fair.

Second option on the hat front is a pattern I have had my eye on for a while. It looks like a birthday cake. Will use it for at the office for your monthly party for the birthday girl/boy after the fair.

And lastly, will be my idea for a baby hat. Just try to win the blue ribbon again since I only got third place last year. I found bits and pieces from three patterns to play around with my idea for the hat. Will fill in later with more details...don't want to give the competition a leg up just in case...lol

June update on the garden

Roma Tomatoes with a spider guest

Summer Squash

Cucumbers

Bird House Gourds

Back from MIA Status

A lot of things have been going on lately but I am back now. A family member was very sick and unfortunately she passed away. Had all the crazy details to get through and a very nice service was held at her church in New Orleans.

I still have some time before school starts back again so I am going to crochet as much as I can. I want to make up some hello kitty hats from a pattern I made up to sell at some of the comic book shows we are going to be participating at later in the year.

Not sure if I will make anything for the state fair this year or not. Just depends on the time factor.

Looking at the pictures of the garden boy to I have to post new pictures. Things have really exploded and there are gourds, cucumbers, squash and little green tomatoes everywhere.

Happy Easter

And then there was a garden

I decided to do a raised flowerbed garden this year. There are two pools. One is full of flowers and the other one is veggies.

The flower pool has: crackerjack mixed marigolds, purple echinacea, cosmos, vanilla ice sunflowers, giant double zinnias, rosemary, sweet basil and lavender.

The veggie pool has: sugar snap peas, roma tomotoes, beets, birdhouse gourds, iceburg lettuce, marketmore 76 cucumbers, danvers carrots, yellow summer squash.

We will see what happens.

Snow, Pink, Optical

It has been a while since I posted last. It has snowed again here in North Carolina!! Took lots of great pictures this morning on the way in, will post later tonight. In fact, when I park in the lot here at work in Raleigh it was snowing lightly.

Tonight my mission after work is to find lots of pink stuff. We are having a fund raiser here at work for the Cancer Society in Kay Yow's name. I am making a gift basket full of fun pink items that we are going to sell raffle off. I crocheted myself a pink fun fur scarf that I just love so I will pick up some more yarn and fun fur at AC Moore tonight and make one for the basket.

School is going pretty well. Had some distractions this past week so I did not get to study as much as I would have liked. Will have to use spring break week to try to get caught up on the eye anatomy studies.

What I have been working on lately

With school and other stuff, crocheting has been a mini luxury. I finished this hat to send to Mary at Online Angels. I held a strand of white and strand of a cool varigated with purples and pinks. It turned out really cute.

There is also the neverending shawl I working on for the state fair this year. I found a really wool/soy blend yarn on sale online. It is called Lighthouse Waves and the color is called Dusty Rose. I originally bought 13 balls and that was not enough if you could believe that!! So luckily it was still on sale so I bought 5 more balls and I hope that will be enough to finish. If not, then where it ends will be the end...lol I will take a picture of it later once I have a flat space to lay it out on.

School is going well. I got a 87.5 on my first eye anatomy test. The average score was 88 so not bad. I know how the instructor tests now so I know what to expect. I am learning the metric system in the math class. It has been years and I boo booed on my last test putting the decial in the wrong directing when doing some conversion between m and mm. Need to work on that a bit more.

I has snowed twice in the last 3 three weeks here in NC. It is pretty to look at and thank goodness it does not stay too long. Here are some pictures on the snow.

This was at work in the parking lot.

This was my car with snow on it.

Will it snow again tomorrow???

They are calling for snow again this week. Lets see if and how much of it we get again. The day after the snow is the worst because our country road ices up and becomes an ice rink. Someone kick that ground hog!!!! LOL

It's Snowing!!!!

It is finally snowing here in North Carolina!!! It took me 1.5 hours to get into work but I made it. Getting home might be another question. But my mom lives near by so I can crash there if I need too.

I made myself a fun fur scarf over the weekend. I had given last years away and had not made myself a new one yet. Came in handy today. I found some Christmas stockings still at Wal-Mart for $.50 each so will have another box full of them for Mary at Online Angels in my next mailing. Got some candy canes too.

Its cold outside!!

The news said it was 17 degrees out this morning. I would say it was more like 12 out where I live. Didn't see any black ice on the way in thank goodness. Did get some bad news from the house, the water stopped running. So that means the well is frozen. Hopefully does not crack the well head. Not a very good two days after birthday problem.

A formula to live by...

Today is your birthday!!!!

Today is my birthday!!! I can't believe that I am actually turning 40! I don't feel that old so that goes to show that age is only a number. Have been celebrating since yesterday when my co-workers surprised me with a veggie tray (my request) and a small cake. Tonight on my actual birthday Mike is taking me to dinner. Then on Thursday Mike is taking me to the Hurricanes hockey game. Then on Friday I will be having dinner with my mom at Cracker Barrel.

After last nights game I sure hope the Canes do better at home. I will have to find my lucky hat to wear to see if I can change their mojo. It is a cool jesters hat I got on my first trip to New Orleans. I wore it while watching games at home and the Canes and the Ducks both won the Stanley Cup in the finals. Come on magic hat!!!

I am a college student again!!!

I have gone back to college to get my Optician's License. I will be able to dispense glasses and contacts when I am done. Hopefully with already having a BA degree I can take some of the completion time off with course work I have already done. The classes are so cool!! They are done online and once the labs start, I will go in one day a month to learn something new and show what I have been working on the previous month. This semester is a math class and an anatomy of the eye course.

What a night bowling!!

Last night at my bowling league I bowled like a crazy woman. My current average is 150 but I have been lucky to get in the 140 range back before Christmas. We had two weeks off for Christmas and New Years. I ended up bowling a 191-177-193. My team won 3 out of four games. We have almost caught up to the first place team. We are now only 1/2 a game behind them. The league goes until the end of March so there is still time to catch them.

I have started working on a shawl out of some cool yarn I got online. It is called Lighthouse Waves and it is a wool/soy blend. I did not see the blend when ordering it online and was going to make a baby blanket out of it but since you can not wash this stuff in a machine decided to make the shawl instead. It is doing a neat striping effect and reminds me of cotton candy in a way. Will have to take a picture of my progress so far. Did a bunch last night at bowling while waiting for my turn.
